چکیده

Abstract Background Previous studies suggest there is an association between levels of lipoprotein a [Lp (a)] and increased cardiovascular risk in general population familial hypercholesterolaemia patients. The purpose this study was to define the exact relationship Lp (a) Familial Combined Hyperlipidaemia (FCH) population. Methods We enrolled 1094 (615 males, mean age 49 years old) patients who fulfilled FCH criteria, from outpatient lipid clinic our hospital. were measured information obtained regarding demographic characteristics, presence coronary artery disease (CAD) CAD factors. Patients categorized initially according baseline quintile 1 (≤30mg/dl) (N=769), 2 (>30 mg/dl, ≤50mg/dl) (N=149), 3 (>50mg/dl, ≤100mg/dl) (N=124), 4 (>100mg/dl, ≤150mg/dl) (N=31), 5 (>150mg/dl) (N=21). calculated percentage with each quintile. Additionally, we performed logistic regression analysis predict based on other factors, age, sex, diabetes mellitus, hypertension smoking. Results Mean value for whole 29.67mg/dl. percentages 13.1%, 16.8%, 15.3%, 22.6%, 23.8% respectively quintiles 1–5 (Figure 1). number increases as increase. To further support finding, revealed that gender added significantly model. could CAD, independently Conclusions correlation unclear. There increasing trend higher positive relationship, indicating straightforward these two parameters. Funding Acknowledgement Type funding sources: None.

A PCSK9 variant and familial combined hyperlipidaemia.

BACKGROUND Our discovery in 2003 of the first mutations of PCSK9 gene causing autosomal dominant hypercholesterolaemia (ADH) shed light on an unknown factor that strongly influences the level of circulating low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). PCSK9 gain of function mutations cause hypercholesterolaemia by a reduction of LDL receptor levels, while PCSK9 loss of function variants are ass...

Familial Breast and Bowel Cancer: Does It Exist?

There is much debate in the literature about familial predispositions to breast and bowel cancers yet little evidence is forthcoming to suggest that there are susceptibility genes that can account for such kindreds. Within the context of known susceptibility genes the most controversial syndrome is hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC). In HNPCC, breast cancers do occur yet their i...

Lipid and lipoprotein metabolism in familial combined hyperlipidaemia during treatment of sporadic phaeochromocytoma: a case study.

Lipid metabolism was evaluated during management of phaeochromocytoma in a 41 year old non-obese post-menopausal women with familial combined hyperlipidaemia. The main effect of the excess catecholamine secretion on lipid metabolism was increased lipolytic activity, lower serum triglyceride and increased HDL cholesterol concentrations, compared with findings following removal of the tumour. Bef...

Postprandial lipaemia in familial combined hyperlipidaemia.

FCHL (familial combined hyperlipidaemia) is the most frequent inherited disorder of lipid metabolism leading to premature atherosclerosis. The usual phenotype in FCHL is elevated fasting plasma triacylglycerols, low HDL (high-density lipoprotein)-cholesterol concentrations and elevated plasma apolipoprotein B concentrations. The metabolic basis for this phenotype is hepatic overproduction of VL...
